Default no random thoughts today

Every single one of my thoughts today have been deftly and accurately planned and calculated. If and when I do have a random thought, however, I will make sure I tell the forum.

You want random:
Code:
intGetRandomNumber()
     {
          return 4; // chosen by fair dice roll.
                    // guaranteed to be random.
     }
(stolen from xkcd - I think it's GPL but you may want to check before using this in your application)

I've just had a long discussion about this in another forum.

Guaranteed to quicken the heartrate of a punter who thinks they may have found an edge:

[nerd]Well, I reckon if you apply it to the exchange games using a base 13 numbering system, you should be able to come up with some sort of curve which will find an edge of a sort in the exchange games. You wouldn't be able to solely rely on it, you would have to have other algorithms going in there as well and use it as a weighting system to make decisions. Doable, but complicated.

The other thing we came up with was that someone had done a benfords analysis on horseracing and found the correlation with 1st, 2nd, 3rd [etc etc] favourites coming in seemed to fall along the Benfords curve fairly neatly.[/nerd]

Maybe one day when I have more time I'll play with it, but at the moment, too much to do.

Hows that for finding a pattern in random?
